The information you have about your learners’ writing, such as reports from the on-line assessment tool, samples of their writing, or your own assessment procedures, should help you to identify:

  • where the learner’s writing skills are in relation to the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy – Write to Communicate
  • specific writing skills the learner seems to have more control over, or in which they demonstrate some expertise - these are strength to build on1.
  • specific writing skills the learner has less control over, or areas where they demonstrate less or little expertise - these are areas to work on2.

For example, sentences are correctly formed, some precise vocabulary, writing has an appropriate tone.

For example, there are a few examples of conventional spelling, and there are consistent errors in sentence structure.
