  • Sharing good examples of the texts that learners will be expected to write is a powerful way of making the demands of the task and the text they are expected to write explicit.
  • When you share these examples with learners, it helps them to set their own goals in order to meet these demands.
  • You need to have a reasonable understanding of the purpose and features of the texts learners are expected to write so that you can help them as they write their own texts. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a grammar expert to do this!

Read Appendix A.3, pages 56-60, of Teaching Adults to Write to Communicate: Using the Learning Progressions to familiarise yourself with the process of analysing (mapping) a text against the Progressions.
