  • Gather as many quality examples as you can of the texts that your learners are required to write. Keep these for sharing and discussing with your learners over time. Make sure these examples are anonymous.
  • Choose one or two to analyse using the template on pages 67 -70, Appendix B.5, in Teaching Adults to Write to Communicate: Using the Learning Progressions.

It is likely that the writing will sit against different levels of the progressions. Remember that the purpose is not just to find the best fit to the progressions, but equally important is knowing the qualities of the writing, and being able to identify what the writer is doing to meet the demands of the task.
