  • Look for patterns or common ‘next steps’ across the group by collating and summarising information from each learner’s information.
  • A good rule of thumb is that if more than half the group have the same or similar next steps, that is good place to start
  • There may be several possible areas to focus on across the group so you may need to prioritise
  • Match the teaching focus to the appropriate progression

The chart in the next slide is an example of how to do this.

Once you have a good undertanding of individual strengths and areas to work on as well as an understanding of the demands of the task and texts learners will be writing, you can plan your teaching.
