The purpose of this on-line learning course is to guide educators to develop the knowledge and skills that will support their work with adult learners who are reading at entry-level. These adults are working below or just at the first steps described in the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy.

In this section we explore:

  • general profiles of adult learners operating at entry-level in reading
  • why and how to find out about adults’ language and literacy practices, as well as any specific factors that might be barriers to their developing expertise in reading.

Next 2. What do we know about the learners at this level?
