What are they telling you in terms of the trainees’ LLN needs and the implications this may have to their study.  We will also look at ways to identify trainees with LLN needs who may not have completed the Assessment Tool.  You will learn how to: better engage with trainees who require LLN support; what questions to ask; how to have conversations comfortably and what help could be offered.

Intended outcomes:

Learn how to successfully engage with employers to address LLN need

Audience: This workshop is suitable for Industry Training Organisation field staff seeking to engage with employers around trainees’ LLN needs

Description: This workshop explores different ways to engage with business around LLN needs.  There is no one way to gain an employer’s buy in, rather you need to align with the specific business and make it relevant to them.  Through this workshop you will build an understanding of different business drivers, and explore ways to trigger an employer’s interest in supporting the LLN needs of their employees through various scenarios.  The workshop will also provide you with a comprehensive list of avenues employers can consider to support workplace literacy and numeracy development.

Intended outcomes:

  • Enhanced understanding of business drivers
  • Improved understanding of how to work effectively with an employer
  • Increased awareness of different avenues of LLN support available to business

Workshop 3: Embedding LLN in an on-job work environment

Grow your awareness of current practices for embedding LLN in an on-job environment

Audience: This workshop is suitable for writers and instructional designers of Industry Training Organisation material

Description: The reality of on-job learning poses its own unique challenges.  This workshop explores the challenges of embedding LLN within an on-job learning environment. We will consider examples of current modules developed by Industry Training Organisations which have an emphasis on embedding.  As a group we will develop a set of guidelines writers and instructional designers can follow when embedding LLN in an on-job environment.  The workshop will also highlight some of the techniques employers are using to support employees with LLN needs as opportunities for learning to take place.

Intended outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of what good practice looks like when embedding LLN in on-job learning
  • Identification of key guidelines to be followed when writing on job modules
  • Increased ability to identify different learning opportunities within a workplace environment

Explore emerging trends in ways to engage with learners through blended learning

Audience: This workshop is suitable for all Industry Training Organisation employees

Description: As technology continues to push the boundaries, online learning is growing in popularity as a tool that is increasingly accessible and relevant to today’s trainees. Together we will consider the different tools and software currently available to assist learners with LLN needs and for instructional designers to use to develop online resources that enhance LLN learning. What makes a good blended learning module? What are some of the current trends around quality assurance of blended learning development?  An on-line community will be created to encourage using digital skills and blended learning following this workshop.

Intended outcomes:

  • Exposure to a range of different tools and software to support trainees with LLN learning needs
  • Exposure to different tools and software available to develop online resources and tools to enhance LLN training
